Personal Training

Andrina Kelly

In 18 months Greg took me from inactive computer geek to Triathlete. Along the way I dropped 90lbs and learnt about what I should be eating and when. Greg knows exactly how far to push you; while it’s really easy to settle or give up when working on your own, having Greg there to encourage, correct and drive you forward to attaining a goal you never thought possible is invaluable.

I started training with Greg after three months of hitting the gym on my own with minimal change. He’s approachable and friendly but with just enough of an air of intimidation about him that you know he means business when the workout begins :-)

Working with Greg has corrected the bad habits I had picked up from years of working out alone. I’m in better shape now – both stronger and fitter – than at any time in the last 15 years.
I used to think I was in pretty good shape. Then I met Greg.

He’s helped me repeatedly go past the limits I thought I had, and I’ve learnt the science behind my workouts – to understand why I’m doing what it is that I’m doing – and that’s something that’s always been overlooked in my previous experience.

Gym is a friend of mine. We’ve been dating off-and-on for about 20 years now. We were hot and heavy when we first started – seeing each other 5-6 days a week. We got together before and after school, and sometimes snuck in a lunchtime meeting.

Things weren’t going so well for us over the last few years. I got tired of routine. It became a big effort to spend time together. We got bored with each other.

I was introduced to Greg and he quickly reignited my relationship with Gym. His workouts were unlike any others I’ve ever experienced. No two sessions were alike. They were challenging and made me come back for more. My body fat dropped, my lean muscle went up and my overall fitness level improved dramatically. Greg has given me a better understanding of my body – how it’s engineered and how to properly take care of it.

Greg has played a major part in rekindling my relationship with Gym. We see each other several times a week, we’re constantly learning new things and see a long future together.

As a teenager, I was always active, was on the swim team in school, played baseball and soccer, and then, after high school and into my early 20′s, I got lazy and gained weight, a lot of it… as I got older, I went back to the gym and in 2006, I ran my first ½ marathon – from there, I defined myself as a “runner”. In September 2007, I got hit by a car and that event set off a spiral of injury throughout my body, winding up in my lower back and SI joint, and for a long time, it ended my running, along with most of my activities. I tried to stay active, I biked and worked out at a lesser degree, but was frustrated. Then Greg came along.

I had been successfully training, yet could not get the constant, nagging pain in my back to go away – nobody could really tell me what was wrong and so I could never properly deal with it – and I was truly demoralized. I started training with Greg and together we started plugging away at it.

Greg has taught me to never give up, to push through it, to not let myself get beat by injury and frustration. He has challenged me, pushed me to levels I did not know I could get to and has motivated me beyond what I ever thought I could do – in August I ran the Women’s 10k. I am running again, but more importantly, I have my confidence back and my thought process has changed. Greg has taught me to set goals for myself, small ones to work towards, and realize that the small ones will eventually get me to the big ones and that I need to be patient – and that to me, is priceless.
